Anti-social behaviour (ASB) is a growing concern in communities across Nottinghamshire, with incidents of vandalism, disorderly conduct, and public disturbances impacting residents’ safety and wellbeing. In response, Nottinghamshire Police sought a cutting-edge, mobile CCTV solution that could be rapidly deployed to high-risk areas.
Woodway delivered a fully equipped surveillance vehicle, integrating the advanced Night Owl Predator mast system, 360 Vision camera technology, and Veracity secure video transmission solutions. This state-of-the-art mobile unit enhances real-time monitoring, intelligence gathering, and operational response, giving officers the tools they need to tackle ASB effectively.
The Need for a Mobile Surveillance Solution
Static cameras and standard police vehicles were insufficient to address Nottinghamshire Police’s requirements. They needed a high-performance mobile surveillance vehicle capable of:
- Rapid Deployment
Responding quickly to ASB hotspots identified through intelligence-led policing. - Full Situational Awareness
Providing 360-degree coverage for enhanced evidence capture. - Secure Video Streaming & Storage
Ensuring high-quality footage is available for operational use and review. - Independent Power Supply
Operating entirely from the vehicle’s electrical system without external power reliance. - Future-Proof Adaptability
Allowing key components to be reused in future fleet upgrades.
To meet these needs, a bespoke conversion was essential – integrating specialist CCTV, lighting, power, and communications technology into a fully functional surveillance hub.

A Tailored Solution by Woodway
Woodway carried out a comprehensive vehicle conversion, ensuring the van is fully equipped for modern policing. Key features include:
Advanced Surveillance with the Night Owl Predator
The Night Owl Predator is a highly versatile, cost-effective mobile surveillance solution, designed for dynamic policing environments. It features a pneumatic telescopic mast extending up to 3m, providing elevated visibility in high-risk areas. The mast integrates seamlessly into the vehicle, with an automatic park function ensuring secure stowage when not in use. A compact, in-vehicle control panel with backlit switches allows easy operation, even in low-light conditions. Combined with the high-performance Predator Camera from 360 Vision and secure video transmission solutions from Veracity, the system delivers clear, high-definition surveillance with real-time remote streaming capabilities.
Comprehensive Interior and Exterior Fit-Out
Woodway’s expert team delivered a bespoke interior fit-out, including an operational workstation, monitors, air conditioning, power sockets, storage solutions, and interior lighting – all designed for maximum efficiency in the field. On the exterior, Whelen emergency lighting and sirens were installed to ensure visibility and public safety, while durable panelling and secure enclosures protect critical equipment.
Reliable, Self-Sufficient Power System
The system runs entirely from the vehicle’s dedicated battery setup, with 7 heavy duty batteries, eliminating the need for external power sources. This self-contained solution supports continuous operation during long deployments, ensuring uninterrupted surveillance.
Future-Proof Adaptability
One advantage of the Night Owl Predator is its adaptability. With minimal vehicle modifications required, this non-intrusive vehicle-mounted mast can be transferred to a new vehicle, ensuring long-term value and investment protection.
“We love working on new projects, and this one was particularly interesting. Nottinghamshire Police needed to monitor and respond to incidents quickly, so we designed this vehicle to be a fully self-sufficient surveillance unit. We’re confident it will prove to be really valuable for the force and the community.”
– Paul Watkins, Installation Manager, Woodway
“There will be no place to hide”
Now fully operational, the CCTV van is set to become a vital asset in Nottinghamshire Police’s efforts to reduce ASB. By positioning the vehicle in hotspot areas, officers can monitor incidents in real-time, deter criminal activity, and respond swiftly to emerging situations. The integrated live-streaming capability ensures that command teams have immediate access to footage, improving situational awareness and coordination
By combining cutting-edge surveillance technology with a purpose-built vehicle conversion, Woodway has delivered a solution that supports intelligence-led policing – helping to create safer communities across Nottinghamshire.
“One of the biggest concerns for our residents is anti-social behaviour. This brand-new vehicle will help us capture this behaviour in real-time and will ensure those who wish to cause these problems are dealt with immediately. With this new piece of equipment, there will be no place to hide. By focusing resources where they are needed most, including hotspot patrols and innovative solutions like the new CCTV van, we are already seeing positive results.”
